In the 1930’s, America’s Pacific Fleet was concentrated around the battleship divisions. Two of those ships were the USS Arizona and USS West Virginia. Both these vessels were present at Pear Harbor on Dec. 7th, 1941. Both were sunk. West Virginia was hit by at least five torpedoes and settled in shallow waters. Arizona was completely destroyed and settled on the bottom with most of her crew, many of whom remain aboard to this day. West Virginia was eventually raised, rebuilt and rendered valuable service for memorial. She remains at Pear Harbor as a tribute to all who paid the ultimate price in the fight for freedom.
