Battle of Khafji
SKU:
battleofkhafji
The first major land battle of the 1991 Gulf War took place during the first week of February 1991. In this, Iraqi armor and infantry passed through their own minefields at night and broke into the Saudi coastal town of Khafji just south of the Kuwaiti Frontier. They were soon dislodged by Saudi and U.S. forces losing several dozen of their fighting vehicles. U.S. Marines and Saudi casualties were minimal. For the allies the realization that these far from elite Iraqi troops had fought a reasonable battle was significant. For the Iraqis it was mainly a propaganda gain.
