Lahloo

SKU: LAHLOO
The 1850’s were the golden years of the clipper ships.  They were the Queens of the Australian passenger trade.  For most of the 1850’s, the dominated the China tea trade.  Hundreds ere built, many of which became famous in the History of Seafaring.  Yet by 1860, most had disappeared.  San Francisco, once crowded with Cape Horn conquerers, counted hardly a true clipper in it’s crowded harbor front.  The reasons for their demise were manyfold.  They were expensive to operate, required large crews, and their sails, spars and rigging wore at a fantastic rate.  In addition, many were lost at sea.  But during their heyday they counted many famous names.  Lahloo, Thermopylae, Ariel and Champion of the Seas, were but a few.
