In July 1863, the largest battle of the American Civil War took place at the town of Gettysburg. This three day conflict was climaxed by one of the greatest charges in Military History. Preceded by a massive artillery bombardment that begun at 1pm on July 3rd, at 3pm the infantry assault against the Union Line on Cemetery Ridge began. More than 12,000 men crossed the open fields of whom only a few hundred managed to break the Federal Line.
