On April 26th 1945, while on picket duty at Radar Station #1 off Okinawa, the U.S.S. Laffey successfully repelled the most extensive Japanese Kamikaze air attack ever mounted against one ship. Having survived four bomb hits and nine crashes she managed to return to the U.S. under her own power. Today she is a war memorial at Patriot’s Point in South Carolina.
