The largest battleship in the wold with a displacement of 72,900 tonnes, Yamato was the flagship of the Japanese fleet. On April 7, 1945, under attack from U.S. torpedo planes and bombers, she was sunk off Kyushu. It took ten torpedoes and twenty three bombs to sink the Yamato.
